CONFRO 2023: This year's Queensland Independent Secondary School Confraternity Rugby League Carnival (QISSRL) was hosted by St Laurence's College during the first week of the June/July break, with the weeklong carnival held at their Runcorn fields in Brisbane.
St Patrick's College, Gympie was one of 46 teams to participate in the Carnival and this year partnered with Good Samaritan Catholic College, Bli Bli for what turned out to be a successful week.
Beginning with a disrupted preparation, many boys were committed to going one better than 2022. Combining with Good Samaritan Catholic College, the boys played with passion and discipline to finish 3rd of 20 teams in their division. The lack of consistent games as a team was always going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome to compete at the carnival.
What the players lacked in experience, they more than made up with effort and teamwork. The boys came together very well to build positive relationships with each other which was evident in their rugby League.
Some of the players do not play League as their club sport. A mix of Union, Soccer and AFL proved to be a great combination for the team as they won their way to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the team lost to a more experienced school. However, their character was revealed in the play off for 3rd position with a comfortable win against another experienced opposition.
Darren Burns – Brisbane Broncos Game Development Officer said, as their coach, I could not have been happier with their efforts on and off the field. They represented their school, team, families, and themselves with great character at all times. I am looking forward to the experience again in 2024.
St Patrick's College Captain, George Finger, was awarded Team Spirit Award and Noah Noke from GSCC awarded Best and Fairest, for the overall carnival. St Pat's Students Zavier Burness, Jordan Brown, and Bill Davies also received Player of the Match throughout the carnival.
Thank you to families, staff, and sponsors; Roadcraft, Dore and Webb Lawyers, Power & Cartwright Solicitors, P&N Electrical, Nolan Meats, Rob Crawford Consulting, and Dragon Garden Family Restaurant for their support in making this experience possible.
The 2024 Carnival will be hosted by Ignatius Park College in Townsville.
College Open Day May 2023
Article with Permssion - Gympie Today - 2023
On Wednesday 10th of May, St Patrick's College Gympie hosted its inaugural Industry Day. This day was designed to showcase the future opportunities for employment in the Gympie Region for our students and to continue building connections between the school and local industries. As Gympie continues to grow, St Patrick's has invested in researching employment trends for now and into the future to enable us to provide pathways that promote our students next step when they leave school.
Over 30 businesses and training organisations joined us on the day, providing our students with invaluable knowledge and a chance to explore how they can begin to forge their own path. Many of our students walked away from the event with job interviews and school based traineeships and apprenticeships.
When the call went out to the Gympie region, we received a huge positive response and were delighted at the depth and breadth of the local businesses that were willing to come on board to support our school. On behalf of St Patrick's College, we sincerely thank them for giving up their time and expertise.
As we see new pathways developed that enable our students to achieve success after school it is important that we, as a College, continue to reflect, adapt and change so that our students are getting every opportunity that is relevant for their desired career path.
